GAR certificate review and surveillance: type validity, changes and production duties
Distinguish actual type-certificate review from production surveillance and manufacturer record retention.
Different dates govern different responsibilities
A GAR type-examination certificate has actual conditions and a maximum ten-year validity from issue under the cited Annex III procedure. This is not a promise that every certificate lasts ten years or every gas device needs annual certificate renewal. Check the issued status, conditions and any restrictions or supplements.
Production follow-up depends on the selected module. C2 supervised product checks have intervals of one year or less under its specific rule; D/E quality-system obligations and other routes have their own tasks. These duties differ from renewing the type certificate and from retaining manufacturer documentation after market placement.
Hypothetical case: a new burner and an annual service invoice
A manufacturer installs a different burner in a boiler range, then calls an annual maintenance invoice renewal of the product’s GAR approval. Obtain the actual type certificate and expiry, burner/change records, selected production programme and genuine body decisions. Identify whether the invoice concerns site maintenance, production activity or neither assessment task.
Notify the body holding the type documentation of changes that may affect essential requirements or certificate conditions and obtain the required additional approval. Resolve production instructions and model coverage separately. A maintenance visit cannot approve a changed type; an unchanged certificate date cannot close the burner modification.
Plan actual change and validity closure
Track design and standard-reference changes, actual certificate status, supplements and production decisions against the version supplied. Address unresolved release scope with competent parties before new claims. Do not invent an extension, surveillance fee or renewal calendar from a ten-year storage duty or an unrelated service date.
Kayra can coordinate the change/status register and requests to the responsible parties. It cannot extend a body-issued certificate or guarantee an unchanged approval. The next action is documented burner-change closure and an evidence-based plan for actual type validity and selected production obligations, separately from site servicing.
